Under totalt sex veckor har Ana Catalina Gubandru, koreograf och konstnär bosatt i Bukarest, utforskat synliga och osynliga energier på den värmländska landsbygden. Vad hon fann? Rikligt med älgspillning, skiftande atmosfärer, vindlande stigar och spännande sägner. 

Med verket vill hon synliggöra laddningen som kan uppstå i mötet med naturen och det omgivande samhället. Hon uppmuntrar besökarna att delta så länge det känns givande och att lägga märke till energierna som vi både alstrar och tar emot. 

Ana Catalina Gubandru har under sin Sverigevistelse också bekantat sig med konceptet fika, vilket inspirerat henne till att baka något hon hoppas få bjuda besökarna på.

Mitt projekt handlar om kropp och energi. Min kropp, din kropp, deras kropp. När jag säger deras kropp syftar jag på vilken annan kropp som helst som inte är min eller din, inklusive djur, de andra människorna, annan närvaron och frånvaron, de saker vi ser och de saker vi inte ser, de imaginära och deras energi. De synliga och inte alltför synliga världarna.

Mellan dig och mig finns det elektricitet, och det kommer det alltid att vara.

Jag njöt av möjligheten att konstnärligt fördjupa mig i mötet mellan mig och platsen; undersöka och promenera i skogen, gräset, bygdegården, sjöarna, djuren, stigarna, lukterna, fåglarna, mig själv, det speciella ljuset, människorna jag har träffat, gravarna, de gamla kulturerna som lämnat tecken i det naturliga landskapet, livet över och under, skillnaderna och likheterna i landskap och naturliga utseenden under de månader jag besökte platsen, skillnaderna och likheterna inom mig själv, energin.

Jag frågade mig själv, vad kan jag ge mer än det som redan finns här till denna plats och detta projekt?

Jag kom in i Värmlands fascinerande historia och universum. Besökte konceptet Dansbana och de sociala sammankomsterna kring en scen och en plats för dans. Mötte konceptet fika och testa det. Önskade att se en älg i skogen, en riktig älg (det finns inga älgar i mitt land) letade efter den, hittade dess spår och såg minst en. Gömde små små skatter i skogen så att du kan hitta dem senare eller aldrig. Att gömma sig som ett djur (under sin egen hud) vara (som) ett djur. Att vara i huden på ett djur. 

Att gå närmare korna, så nära, känna deras starka ljudande andning.

Gömma sig i huden på ett djur, vara i huden på ett djur. Eftersom människor, natur och djur är släktingar. Jag lämnade lite energi av min närvaro på de platser jag gick till och jag tog lite energi från dem. Energi är något som du bara kan känna, men ibland kan det också vara synligt. Det är vad jag försöker göra.

Jag jobbar främst med konceptet “performance” och “performing”, med närvaro och frånvaro och med relationen till publiken och sakerna runt omkring. Verket är inspirerat av de elstängsel som är så närvarande här, av spåren av älgarna som jag letat efter så intensivt, av att jag har blivit elektrifierad av stängslet, av själva projektets namn Andra energier, och mycket annat från platsen och dess omgivningar.

Ana Catalina Gubandru (b 1981) är en frilansande konstnär, koreograf, dansare och performance konstnär född och verksam i Bukarest, Rumänien. Hennes arbete kretsar kring kroppen och åskådaren. Utifrån olika koncept och medier arbetar hon med utgångspunkt från föreställningen, des grundläggande definition och kontext. Ana Catalinas konstnärsskap bygger på arbete under nationella och internationella konstnärliga residens och hon presenterar verken på olika internationella scener, platser och i olika sammanhang och arrangemang.

For a total of six weeks, Ana Catalina Gubandru, choreographer and artist living in Bucharest, explored visible and invisible energies in the Värmland countryside. What did she find? Plenty of moose droppings, changing atmospheres, winding paths and exciting legends.

With the work, she wants to make visible the energy that can arise in the encounter with nature and the surrounding society. She encourages visitors to participate as long as it feels rewarding and to notice the energies that we both generate and receive.

During her stay in Sweden, Ana Catalina Gubandru also became familiar with the concept of fika, which inspired her to cook some goodies, which she hopes the visitors will enjoy.

From Ana Catalina Gubandru:
My project is about body and energy. My body, your body, their body. When I say their body I refer to any other body that is not mine or yours, including animals, the other people, the other presences and absences, the things we see and the things we don’t, the imaginary ones and their energy. The visible and not too visible worlds. 

Between you and me there is electricity, and it will always be. 

I enjoyed the opportunity to artistically immerse myself in the meeting between me and the place; researching and walking the forest, the grass, the studio, the lakes, the animals, the trails, the smells, the birds, myself, the special light, the people I’ve met, the graves, the ancient cultures that left signs in the natural landscape, the life above and below, the differences and similarities in landscape and natural appearances in the months I visited the place, the differences and similarities within myself, the energy. 

I asked myself, what can I bring more than that is already here to this place and this project?

I entered the fascinating history and universe of the Värmland region. Revisiting the concept of dansbana and of the social gatherings around a stage and a place for dancing. Finding out about the concept of fika and testing it. Wishing to see a moose in the forest, a real moose ( there are no moose in my country) looking for it, finding its traces and seeing at least one. Hiding small little treasures into the forest so you can find them later on or never. Hiding as an animal ( under its own skin) being ( as) an animal. Being in the skin of an animal. Revisiting in august the secret places from june i couldn’t enter as deep as before or not at all because of the vegetation that was grown meanwhile. 

Going closer to the cows, so close, feeling their strong soundy breathing. 

Hiding in the skin of an animal, being in the skin of an animal. Because humans, nature and animals are relatives. I left some energy of my presence in the places I went and I grabbed some energy from them. Energy is something that you only can feel, but sometimes it could be also visible. That is what I am trying to do.

I work mainly with the concept of performance and performing, with the presence and the absence and with the relation with the audience and the things around. The work is inspired by the electric fences that are so present here, by the traces of the mooses that I was looking for so hard, by the fact that I ve got electrified by the fence,  by the name of the project itself Andra energier, and many other things from the region.

About the artist:

Ana Catalina Gubandru (b 1981)is an independent artist, choreographer, dancer and performer born and based in Bucharest, Romania. Her work is related to the body and spectatorship. She mostly work with the basic definition of the performance using various concepts and artistic media. Ana Catalina develop her projects in national and international artistic residencies and present them internationally in different contexts, events and spaces.
